The WFAIGH Global Health Education Group.

The group was established at the last Members Meeting in Berlin in October 2015 and it is charged with a short-term and a long-term task.

The short term task is to prepare a workshop on Academic Global Health to be delivered at the Geneva Health Forum (GHF) to take place on 19th – 21st April 2016 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The long-term task will be to work on several foundational issues of Global Health, including: defining the nature and scope of the GH as an academic field from a broad, inclusive, perspective that is interdisciplinary, inter professional and interregional, integrating the visions from the Global North and the Global South. The Group will review the existent literature on GH education and training in various regions seeking consensus on basic competencies, teaching and learning methods, accreditation and credentialing issues. Within this broad mandate, the Group is expected to define more targeted Term of Reference for itself and define how it will achieve its goals.

The group is conformed by the following members:

  • Lynda Wilson, from the University of Alabama Birmingham;
  • Liz Grant, from the University of Edinburgh;
  • Ulrich Laaser, from the FAculty of Health Sciences, University of Bielefeld;
  • Núria Casamitjana, from the Global Health Institute of Barcelona;
  • Tony Capon, from the United Nations University;
  • Philip Adongo, from the School of public Health of the University of Ghana;
  • Thomas Krafft; from Maastricht University;
  • Helena Ribeiro, from the School of Public Health of the University of Sao Paulo.
